EHSAN CONCLUDES THE MEDIA COVERAGE WORKSHOP

Elderly Empowerment and Care Center “Ehsan” organized a training workshop titled “Basics of Media Coverage of Elderly Issues” on the occasion of the International Day for Awareness of Elderly Abuse, which falls on the fifteenth of June of each year. The workshop was held at Katara Cultural Village, in the presence of a number of journalists and media professionals from various media outlets in the country. The first session of the workshop started at five o'clock in the evening, and the second session was a training workshop and a practical session in the field of media and elderly issues. A number of media professionals participating in the workshop stressed its importance in educating society about elderly issues through various media platforms. Khaled Abdullah, Acting Executive Director of the Center, stressed the importance of media in changing stereotypes about the elderly, and their active role in participation and nation-building, pointing out that the center always seeks to empower the elderly in one way or another, and uses all its capabilities for this purpose. He added that he will take into account all the suggestions made by the media during the workshop, and will work on developing the center’s social media accounts. Ali Al-Mahmoud, a Qatari journalist, said: “The workshop held by Ehsan Center on the occasion of the International Day for Awareness of Elderly Abuse was very useful, during which many methods and ways of dealing with this group that require complete care, were discussed. We need to continue raising awareness and taking care of the elderly, especially since telderly people exist and live among us in the community, and they need to be praised for their efforts that contributed to the establishment of the country and its development in all aspects.” "We hope that Ehsan Center will continue to establish and organize such workshops, which are of great benefit and deliver a clear message to all individuals of the necessity of paying attention to the elderly," he added. He said that aging shouldn’t be an obstacle that prevents eldelry from enjoying their lives, continuing their journey, attending various events and expressing their opinions. He stressed that the media has a major role to play in conveying a clear message about elderly and the necessity of dealing with them with respect and appreciation in every place and time, as the media is the real link for transmitting everything that benefits the elderly and society in all its spectrums, specifically the youth and the next generation, and educating them on how to deal with the elderly and respect them.
